Who We Are
Roka Projects was built by two people who started the same, took different paths in their construction journey, and combined what they'd learned to build Roka.
Both started as labourers on the North Shore and West Vancouver — experience that runs deep in the neighbourhoods Roka works in across Greater Vancouver today. One stayed close to the tools and built a career across some of the most demanding custom home sites in the region. The other went back to school, moved through large-scale commercial construction, and came back to residential renovation because it's where the real problem-solving happens.
Since founding Roka in 2019, they've completed projects for over 100 clients across Greater Vancouver. 20 of those clients have come back for a second, third, or even fourth project — which, in an industry where referrals and repeat business are the real measure of a job well done, is the number we're most proud of.
Tyler Thorne — Owner
Tyler started his career as a labourer for a builder specialising in custom homes and renovations in West Vancouver. He progressed through the ranks and was running large custom renovations and builds by his mid-twenties. He went on to earn his Red Seal Certificate of Qualification in Carpentry and a Bachelor of Construction Management from BCIT, followed by a graduate degree at UBC. From there he managed large construction and development projects across Vancouver, the Lower Mainland, and Calgary — including mixed-use towers and multiple high-density residential developments. He co-founded Roka Projects to bring the same process and transparency he applied to that work to residential renovation, where in his experience it's far less common.
Gord Green — Owner
Gord started as a labourer and worked his way up through framing, siding, and lead carpentry with some of the most well-known custom home builders in West Vancouver. He ran his own siding installation company, earned his Red Seal Certificate of Qualification in Carpentry, and went on to co-own a landscape and construction company operating across West Vancouver and the North Shore before bringing everything he'd built over 34 years to Roka. At Roka, Gord is the reason the work is done right: he's the person on site who knows whether something can actually be built the way it's drawn, and who won't let a structural problem get papered over.
why we built roka projects
We started Roka because we wanted to build a company we'd be proud of — one that clients enjoy working with, and where the people doing the work enjoy being part of it. That's not an accident. We've built a team that our clients genuinely like, and that matters on a renovation project where the same people are in your home for weeks or months at a time.
We hold the same standard on every project, not just the easy ones. The challenging projects are the ones we enjoy most: the structural problems, the tight sites, the scopes that other contractors pass on. That's where we do our best work. Have a home that needs to be lifted in the air, moved over a few feet, and set down on a new foundation? That's us.
Pricing is always transparent. What's behind your wall is often unknown until we get there — and that's exactly when you want a contractor you trust.
That means communication at every stage and a paper trail that means neither party gets surprised. When something changes on a project, you find out before the invoice — not after.
It has taken years to build that reputation. We don't take it lightly.
Who We're Not For
Roka isn't the right fit for every project or every client — and we're honest about that from the first conversation.
We don't compete on price. If your primary goal is finding the lowest number, there are contractors better suited to that conversation. Our pricing is transparent and fair, but it reflects the cost of doing things properly.
We're not the contractor who tells you what you want to hear. If there's a structural problem behind your walls, we'll tell you about it and talk through the options — rather than quietly proceeding and hoping no one notices.
