North Vancouver

North Vancouver's oldest homes were built for the waterfront, modest wartime houses put up by the hundreds for shipyard workers during the Burrard Dry Dock boom, and before those, early kit houses ordered straight from a catalogue.

Bungalows, Split-Levels, and the

Classic Split-Entry

A hundred or so of the wartime houses still stand below Lonsdale. But most of the stock is post-war: 1950s to 1970s bungalows, split-levels, and the classic split-entry homes the North Shore is known for, where the front door opens on a landing between floors and the house runs both up and down from there. Those layouts made sense on sloped lots, but they divide the home into half-levels, and opening them up, brightening the lower floor, or converting it into a suite is some of our most common North Van work. And the Shore keeps changing. Development in Lynn Valley, Edgemont Village, and along Mount Seymour Parkway has added townhomes and condos we're just as at home renovating. Outside, the geography keeps us equally busy: decks, patios, retaining walls, and structural concrete, where drainage and slope have to be engineered, not guessed at.
