Deck Contractors Vancouver
A deck in Vancouver works harder than a deck almost anywhere else. Eight months of rain, wet winters that never quite freeze, and summer sun mean the details (flashing, ledger attachment, drainage, ventilation under the boards) decide whether a deck lasts eight years or twenty-five.

What Does Deck Work Cost in Vancouver?
Deck costs in Vancouver spread wider than most homeowners expect, because the number depends less on the deck you want than on the structure we find. A recent deck repair in North Vancouver came in around $8,500 (2024). A full deck refresh in Burnaby (new surface, railings, and repairs to the structure beneath) came in around $42,000 (2025). A new deck with engineering, permits, and glass railings can go beyond that.
What moves the number:
What's under the surface
Structural condition (framing, footings, connections, and the ledger at the house) is the single biggest variable, and it's only fully known once the deck is opened up.
Height and structure
A ground-level platform and a second-storey deck with guards, stairs, and engineered footings are different projects.
Surface material and system
Cedar, composite, and vinyl membrane carry different costs, and two-ply torch-on assemblies with concrete or pavers over top sit at the higher end, priced as a waterproofing system plus a finished surface.
Railings
Wood, aluminum, and glass span a wide price range. On smaller decks the railing system can cost as much as the deck surface.
Permits and engineering
We price deck work the way we price everything: you see the actual cost of labour, materials, and any subtrades, plus our stated management fee. When we find something unexpected, it becomes a documented line item you approve, not a surprise on the final invoice. Costs shown include our management fee and exclude GST.

It depends on the municipality and the deck's height and size. Many municipalities require a permit once a deck is more than 2 feet above grade, and attached or second-storey decks generally need one. We confirm the requirement for your address and manage the application. Our renovation permit guide covers how each Metro Vancouver municipality handles permits.

Worn boards alone don't decide it. A deck with a tired surface can have sound structure underneath, and a deck that looks fine on top can be failing where you can't see it. What decides repair versus replacement is the structure: the ledger connection to the house, the joists, posts and beams, and the footings. We assess those directly and give you a recommendation with the reasoning, not just a number.
-
Repairs typically run days to a couple of weeks. Full rebuilds typically run two to four weeks on site, plus permit time where required. Allow several weeks to a few months for permits depending on the municipality.

There are more options than most homeowners realize: cedar, pressure-treated, composite, vinyl membrane, pavers on pedestals, and more. Each carries its own cost, maintenance, and lifespan trade-offs, and the old assumptions don't always hold; good cedar can price close to composite now. We'll walk you through the pros and cons of whichever options are applicable to your home, and tell you which we'd choose and why.

We have a $5,000 minimum project size. Smaller work and recurring maintenance (inspections, cleaning, refinishing, minor repairs) is handled through 360 Homecare, our home maintenance membership.
