Deck Contractors Vancouver

A deck in Vancouver works harder than a deck almost anywhere else. Eight months of rain, wet winters that never quite freeze, and summer sun mean the details (flashing, ledger attachment, drainage, ventilation under the boards) decide whether a deck lasts eight years or twenty-five.

Types of Deck Work We Do

Deck Replacement

Complete removal and rebuild when framing is beyond repair. We assess whether existing footings can be reused or need replacing, and bring in a structural engineer where the project requires one.

Structural Deck Repair

Rot at the ledger, posts, beams, or joists, found and fixed, not covered over. If we open up a deck and the framing is worse than expected, you'll know the same day, with photos.

New Deck Construction

Custom deck building for your lot, from permits through final inspection. Wood, composite, or waterproof vinyl membrane over a usable space below.

Guardrails, Railings & Stairs

Aluminum and glass guardrail systems, wood railings, and stair rebuilds, installed to current BC Building Code on new decks or as standalone replacements. We also repair failing glass guardrails. The usual call is a guardrail that has developed too much movement, with glass coming loose in its fittings. At that point it's a safety issue, not a cosmetic one, and we rebuild the attachment so the system is structurally sound again.

Waterproof Deck Systems

Vinyl membrane decks, and two-ply torch-on membrane assemblies finished with concrete, pavers, wood, composite, or other surfaces over top, for rooftop patios and decks over living space, where the waterproofing protecting the structure and the surface you walk on are two separate layers, and a failure in the first ruins both.

Pergolas & Deck Coverings

Wood pergolas, privacy screens, and aluminum-frame glass canopies that extend the season. Where a cover attaches to the house, the connection is flashed and sealed properly. The same detail that decides whether a deck lasts decides whether a canopy leaks.

What Does Deck Work Cost in Vancouver?

Deck costs in Vancouver spread wider than most homeowners expect, because the number depends less on the deck you want than on the structure we find. A recent deck repair in North Vancouver came in around $8,500 (2024). A full deck refresh in Burnaby (new surface, railings, and repairs to the structure beneath) came in around $42,000 (2025). A new deck with engineering, permits, and glass railings can go beyond that.

What moves the number:

What's under the surface

Structural condition (framing, footings, connections, and the ledger at the house) is the single biggest variable, and it's only fully known once the deck is opened up.

Height and structure

A ground-level platform and a second-storey deck with guards, stairs, and engineered footings are different projects.

Surface material and system

Cedar, composite, and vinyl membrane carry different costs, and two-ply torch-on assemblies with concrete or pavers over top sit at the higher end, priced as a waterproofing system plus a finished surface.

Railings

Wood, aluminum, and glass span a wide price range. On smaller decks the railing system can cost as much as the deck surface.

Permits and engineering

We price deck work the way we price everything: you see the actual cost of labour, materials, and any subtrades, plus our stated management fee. When we find something unexpected, it becomes a documented line item you approve, not a surprise on the final invoice. Costs shown include our management fee and exclude GST.

How We

Manage Deck Projects

Assessment: Repair or Replace, Honestly

Not every aging deck needs replacing. We open up the areas that matter, framing, ledger, footings, and give you a straight answer about what the structure can support. If the call needs a structural engineer's opinion, we'll tell you that too, and coordinate it. If an $8,500 repair is the better investment than a rebuild, we'll say so; we've told plenty of homeowners to spend less than they were braced for. If you'd be putting new boards on rotten bones, we'll say that as well.

During Construction: You See What We See

Deck framing hides its problems until demo day. When we find rot beyond the planned scope, you get photos and a priced scope change to approve before the work happens, through the same client portal where every invoice and daily log lives.

Carpentry In-House, Specialists for Specialty Systems

Deck framing, structural repair, and finishing are done by our own Red Seal carpenters, the connections, flashing, and load paths that decide whether a deck lasts. Waterproof membranes, vinyl and two-ply torch-on, and glass canopies are installed by specialty subtrades we use across our projects; railings and pergolas are built in-house or subbed depending on the system. Either way, we hire, sequence, and stand behind every trade on the job; you're never left coordinating between a decking crew and a glass installer.
